Relations with the European Union and Russia are equally important for Belarus, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told reporters on October 20. “We pursue a multi-directed policy. We are in the centre of Europe and this says it all. Therefore Europe is important for us,” the Head of State said. “With the Russians we are one nation,” the President added. “Our destiny has been like this: we are the bridge between the East and the West. We must fulfill this role in full,” Alexander Lukashenko said. In his words, to be a connecting link between the East and the West is a great responsibility for the country, and it is very important, especially today.
