Belarus will host the first conference on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in late 2009, Healthcare Minister of Belarus Vasily Zharko said at a meeting with members of the Traditional Chinese Medicine State Department on October 27. According to the minister, a systematic and purposeful work on TCM personnel training should precede such a forum. There are a lot for the Chinese and Belarusian people to learn from each other. The Chinese side praised Belarus’ healthcare system, the Belarusian side efficient and economical methods of treatment in China. According to Vasily Zharko, the Belarusian healthcare system has been developing fast. The country has been setting up research centres where specialists conduct a wide range of high-tech operations and up-to-date methods of treatment. In terms of the major healthcare indices Belarus keeps up with highly-developed countries. “We have managed to do a lot in the national healthcare,” the minister said. Vasily Zharko emphasized the importance of the governmental and presidential support of the national healthcare. The Belarusian and Chinese sides signed a memorandum on cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine.
